The National Honor Society at the Prep collected food to distribute to families in need in Passaic.

The National Honor Society prides itself on taking scholars beyond the Honor Roll.

The NHS at Passaic Preparatory Academy encourages and propels students to exhibit their eminence in the fields of scholarship, service, leadership, and character since the organization’s establishment in 1921, and also recognizes the students for outstanding performance.

The NHS emphasizes these qualities through a variety of actions, such as: Aid the community by providing needed services through donations/volunteer work; Help with the organization of community and school events; Fundraise for specified firms whose beliefs and/or aims are corroborated by the NHS, and host activities to strengthen community and school spirit. The NHS organizes and participates in service projects that benefit the ones in most need.

On Jan. 24, the National Honor Society at Passaic Preparatory Academy was part of helping the Heaven’s Gate Food Pantry located in Passaic on bagging food that will go to those families in need of it. The NHS plans to continue doing this every Friday with its new advisor, English teacher Gina DiRenzi

“It was an amazing experience and I’m glad I got to spend it with amazing girls,” said Lizbeth Coliente, a member of the National Honor Society at Prep.

The National Honor Society’s goal is to continue helping their community and making the school a better place for students, and they are not stopping there. By the end of this year, there will be more exciting news about their services.
