Music technology students Yliyah Burgher-Lok (10th grade) and Luis Suarez (ninth grade) performed at the Marriott Marquis in New York City with famous rapper Master P in front of more than 600 guests at the Music Will Benefit Gala on May 7.
It was an evening celebrating and appreciating music and creativity. The Music Will Benefit Gala is an annual event held by Music Will that is meant to fundraise vital funds for free musical instruments and teacher training. Not only did our two talented students perform in front of a huge crowd, but they also collaborated with 5-time Grammy award musician, Master P. Master P is an American rapper, actor, and entrepreneur.
In this collaboration with Master P, Yliyah and Luis worked on both the lyrics and message of their performance. Professionalism, student artistry, and creativity was used by our students alongside the All-Star Band and Michael Bernard, a professional musician and bandleader.
The Music Technology program taught by Ms. Burgos at Prep offers students the opportunity to learn songwriting, music production skills, performance skills, and gain real world experiences to prepare them for the future. Thanks to this opportunity, Yliyah and Luis not only represented Prep and Passaic, but also the Music Technology Pathway along with its impact on students.
