Interested in getting FREE academic help? Or do you just want to make the most out of your summer? The Upward Bound Pre-College program is accepting applications for their summer semester!
The Upward Bound program is located at 2 Paulison Ave., which is Passaic County Community College’s Passaic Academic Center. It is structured to provide academic enrichment along with support for students grade 9th through 12th who attend any high school in Passaic. Upward Bound services include classes, free meals, stipends and field trips, all of which are provided free of charge to eligible students.
Field trips in the summer include going to colleges, amusement parks, and museums. These weekly trips vary. Along with that, students in good standing with both grades and attendance at the program are eligible to attend the yearly college tour that happens in the summer. This year, the Upward Bound students went to Yale University, University of Connecticut, and PACE University. Students had fun as well, such as staying in a hotel free of charge, visiting The Shoppes at Buckland Hills, Dave and Busters, and eating at restaurants such as Olive Garden.
Another advantage of this program includes SGA, otherwise known as the Student Government Association. Students can run for leadership positions such as president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and grade senator. All of these roles are important for the student body, and embrace leadership during their high school career. Not only does the Upward Bound SGA promote leadership, but also provides opportunities for students to help out the community with volunteer opportunities.
So, if you’re interested in strengthening your leadership and communication skills, or want to have a fun and educational summer, then this program might be for you! Visit the PCCC Passaic Campus at 2 Paulison Ave. on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3-5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8-12 p.m. to apply.
