Happy National School Counseling Week!
To honor our counselors this week, The Boulevard Online will highlight the contributions from all of Prep’s excellent counselors in the main office, as well as SBYS. Today, we shine the spotlight on Ms. Giselle Fontalvo! Ms. Fontalvo shared a few minutes out of her busy schedule to let the Prep community in on her favorite parts of the job.
What does it mean to you to be in a position to help students in many ways?
Ms. Fontalvo: Working as a School Counselor is one of the greatest roles I’ve ever had. I take this role very seriously and this responsibility and privilege of supporting my students means everything to me.
In what area do students seem to need the most help?
Ms. Fontalvo: It’s hard to pinpoint it down to one specific area that students need help in because all areas can at some point be interrelated. That’s also why I love my job so much, because I can work within all of these areas and help students understand how everything they are experiencing is related.
Is there any job you would rather have? Why?
Ms. Fontalvo: Nope! I love being a School Counselor!
What would you tell a student who wants to become a school counselor?
Ms. Fontalvo: I would tell the student this is such a fun career! You need a master’s degree so keep the focus and momentum on completing school and doing it successfully.
How will you celebrate National School Counseling Week?
Ms. Fontalvo: On a personal note, I am treating myself to a fun breakfast on Monday to start the week off right! Professionally, I will be continuing to share awareness of what the School Counseling role entails and work on fostering a supportive environment at school.
