Ms. Benedetti’s seniors in Gothic Studies classes visited Washington Irving’s sunnyside home and the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in New York on Oct. 25.
The students toured the home of the American writer Washington Irving. Paintings were showcased around the house with images of significant parts of the story that Washington Irving is well known for, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” Students were shown Irving’s dining room, guest rooms, the kitchen, the porch that had a direct view to the railroad, the parlor, and his study. The students were chaperoned by Mr. Coco, Ms. Mulreany, Mr. Graham, Mr. Lockwood and Ms. Scheerer.
The second location was the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, where the students were able to see the resting places of many famous people. The students saw the burials and learned about the life of Washington Irving, Andrew Carnegie, Walter Chrysler, Samuel Gompers, Elizabeth Arden, Leona Helmsley, Brooke Astor, and William Rockefeller.
