The Passaic girls wrestling team took a field trip to New Jersey City University in Jersey City on Oct. 30 for the second consecutive year to watch the NJCU women’s wrestling team in their first match of the season against Columbia University, Rider University, and Rutgers University.

It was an amazing experience for the girls. Those on the team who had attended Jump Into Summer, a summer training program, enjoyed seeing their summer coach, Sandra Guerrero, who is captain of NJCU’s women’s wrestling team. The Passaic girls also met the amazing coaches from each team and the wrestlers as well. This was a great example for them to see how empowered and strong women are.
“I think the trip gave the girls a great experience on what the sport of wrestling is about. It also showcased the various opportunities of wrestling at the college level that exist for women.” said the Passaic girls wrestling head coach Mr. Lightfoot. “This season I look forward to seeing how our returning wrestlers have progressed since last year and building upon that progress while also developing a new wave of new wrestlers to be ready to step in when our seniors graduate.”
This gave our veteran wrestlers a great motivation for this upcoming season. This helped our newcomers to see what it would be like to wrestle and the kind of opportunities that are out there for them. This showed them how wrestling has grown and will continue to grow for the years to come. It is exciting to see so many women participate in such a challenging sport on a higher level (D1 , D3, and varsity clubs).
