The Passaic City Youth Council held its second annual Mental Health Awareness Walk on Sunday, Oct. 24.

The walk went from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and started and ended at Passaic City Hall. The walk was spearheaded by Prep senior Amy Zarebczan, with help from the Youth Council and the Student Council.

The event included speeches from Zarebczan, the Youth Council President, as well as city Deputy Mayor Edwin Garcia and mental health specialist Sherri Grier.

Students from all over Passaic came out to support mental health, along with staff and teachers. The event originated after the death of a Passaic Youth Council member in August of 2020, and continues to be an event of hope. Since then, mental health has been a priority among the city’s youth, especially with the return of students to school in-person. The city, students, teachers, staff, and administrators are working together to make Passaic a stigma-free community.
