Homecoming held through Covid restrictions
One Prep student makes the Homecoming court
Covid-19 has changed everything this year, but it didn’t prevent the annual homecoming game and court ceremony at Passaic’s Boverini Stadium on Oct. 30, 2020.
Passaic’s football team was up against Paterson Kennedy High School. Passaic successfully defended its home turf, securing a 32-14 victory for its first triumph of the season.
The homecoming ceremony followed afterwards, honoring the top four female and male candidates that battled for the title of king and queen (only high school seniors are allowed to run). Passaic Preparatory Academy’s very own Stephanie Carpinteiro was on the court.
Seniors on the court:
- Abimael Fidangue
- Stephanie Carpinteiro
- Freddy Huitzil
- Nicole Marulanda
- Antrell Monroe
- Daysha Melendez
- Jose Rodriguez
- Brendalee Rodriguez
PHS, Prep, and Pase seniors all voted for their top pick for homecoming queen and king via a Google Form. Voting started Oct. 21 and ended Oct. 27. In all, 13 kings and 16 queens were nominated, including, from Prep: Justin Moreno for king, and Yansely Estrella, Elisa Matos, Jaylie Barrett, and Madeline Urena for queen, as well as Stephanie, who was a finalist.
The final nominees sat together until halftime of the game, then did a shoutout on Facebook Live with Passaic Mayor Hector Lora. Stephanie’s shoutout was: “Passaic, go vote!”
Winning homecoming king and queen were Passaic High School seniors Freddy Huizil and Nicole Marulanda.
