The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by our school district to recognize seniors who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation. It’s a way to honor and celebrate students’ abilities and achievements in bilingualism.
Testing ran from Jan. 1 through Feb. 10 as Prep aimed to prepare students to take charge of their resources and pass with flying colors. Students must achieve proficiency in one or more languages other than English by fulfilling a passing score on a Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing Proficiency Test in Spanish. It is imperative that students achieve high marks in their English and Spanish language courses. Upcoming Juniors might ask themselves, why is the exam important to our future? Here are five reasons achieving the Seal of Biliteracy is important:
- Helps students get into college, with academic credit.
- Helps students earn certain jobs. A lot of employers and universities pick students who can show communication and continuous learning proficiency.
- The Seal of Biliteracy can inspire students and make them feel proud of their language skills.
- Students can find a new appreciation and cultural awareness for their ancestry.
- Bilingualism can help our students participate in the global community, learn about other cultures, and get information from more places. Being biliterate is even better!
